Description :
In 1734, the philosopher Voltaire was threatened with imprisonment after the publication of his "Letters on the English", a strong criticism of French institutions. His friends, the Marquise du Châtelet, one of the most brilliant feminine minds of the 18th century, invited him to take refuge in Cirey sur Blaise. The philosopher succumbed to the charms of Emilie du Châtelet and was very quickly enamoured of the house. As a result, he spent fifteen years in Cirey sur Blaise. Visitors today are shown the Marquise' bedroom, the dining room the reception rooms, the library, the 17th-century kitchens and the small theatre laid out by Voltaire in the attics of the house. All of them are reminders of the exceptional people who stayed here.
